2021 Summer Reading Program – Tails and Tales

Thank you for participating in the 2021 Summer Reading Program! Georgia Public Library Service programs are partially assisted with funds from the Library Services and Technology Act through the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Children who sign up for the Summer Reading Program will receive a reading log to record titles of books read each week. Track your reading progress and receive a small prize each week. Return your final reading logs by Friday, July 23, 2021. Pick up your 2021 Summer Reading Certificate between Monday, July 26, 2021 and Friday, July 30, 2021.
Please note – The Libraries will be closed Monday, May 31, 2021 in observance of Memorial Day and Saturday, July 3, 2021 in observance of Independence Day.

Toddlers and Preschoolers
(Ages 1 year to 5 years old)

Tuesday, June 1 and Wednesday, June 2 What is a Veterinarian?: We will make our own Vet lab coat.
Tuesday, June 8 and Wednesday, June 9 Dog Checkup: you may bring a stuffed animal dog for a checkup.
Tuesday, June 15 and Wednesday, June 16 Bird Checkup: you may bring a toy bird for a checkup.
Tuesday, June 22 and Wednesday, June 23 Reptile Checkup: you may bring a toy lizard, snake, turtle or other reptile for a checkup.
Tuesday, June 29 and Wednesday, June 30 Cat Checkup: you may bring a stuffed animal cat for a checkup.
Tuesday, July 6 and Wednesday, July 7 Animals from the Aquarium: you may bring an aquatic animal toy for a checkup.
Tuesday, July 13 and Wednesday, July 14 Animals from the Farm: you may bring an a farm animal toy for a checkup.
Tuesday, July 20 and Wednesday, July 21 Animals from the Zoo: you may bring a zoo animal toy for a checkup.

Primary and Elementary Children
(Ages 6 years to 11 years old)

Weekly take home craft/activity packets available at checkout.

Week 1 – June 1, 2021 Once Upon a Time Tales: Fizzing Fair Potion take home craft/activity.
Week 2 – June 7, 2021 Classic and Fractured Tales: Foaming Dragon take home craft/activity.
Week 3 – June 14, 2021 Midnight Tales: Glow in the Dark Painted Rock take home craft/activity.
Week 4 – June 21, 2021 Sea Adventure Tales: 3D Paper Fish take home craft/activity.
Week 5 – June 28, 2021 Legendary Tales: Mermaid Slime take home craft/activity.
Week 6 – July 5, 2021 Wild Tales: 3d Paper Snake take home craft/activity.
Week 7 – July 12, 2021 Prehistoric Tales: Fizzy Dino Egg take home craft/activity.
Week 8 – July 19, 2021 Family Tales: Painted Family Rock Portraits take home craft/activity

Family Programming

Due to COVID-19 safety concerns and social distance requirements, the Libraries will host LIMITED group programming this year.

Princess Visit Princess Belle will visit the libraries to read one of her favorite books. Children are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite prince or princess for pictures at the end of the program.

Veterinarian Visit Come meet a local Veterinarian as he tells us a little about his job as an animal doctor. What’s the smallest animal the Vet has treated? What’s the biggest? The scariest?
Dates and times will be announce in late June.

Family Movie Fridays

Join us each Friday morning at 10:00am at the Thomas Public Library, Fort Valley or the Byron Public Library, Byron, for family movie programming. You may bring your own snacks.
